Barbara Converse is a Certified Personal Chef, and is president of the South Florida Chapter of Personal Chefs. She is a graduate of the New York Restaurant School, and has been working as a professional chef for more than 25 years.
Barbara’s life-long love for the culinary arts began at an early age – with both parents working, preparing dinner was a real family affair. Her first job was in a bakery! Yet it took her another 15 years to figure out she had a passion for cooking and should pursue that as a career. After Culinary School, there were a few restaurant jobs in New Jersey, and in 1984 Barbara moved to Florida and spent the next 7 years at Boca West Country Club. Being a large Country Club with several dining rooms, banquet facilities, a small gourmet dining room, Chef Barbara had the opportunity to work in many areas and continue to grow professionally.
In 1996, Barbara learned about the United States Personal Chef Association and launched Dining By Design, one of South Florida's first Personal Chef businesses. Her first clients were busy professionals who did not have the time to cook, but wanted healthy, nutritious meals. Since that time, Chef Barbara has expanded her business. She still prepares meals for the busy professionals and families, but now also offers dinners for 2 to 25, sit down or buffet, casual or fine dining, as well as catering small events. Gift Certificates can be designed to meet your needs.

Certified Personal Chef Bonnie Lowrey knew good food came “from the heart” long before she decided to give her personal chef service the same name. Her grandmothers, the source of her culinary inspiration, made huge, golden dinner rolls and wonderfully browned garlic and basil rubbed whole chickens. Their food looked beautiful, tasted delicious and filled the house with wonderful smells. She just knew that was due to the caring and love they put into each dish.
Those impressions and smells are the foundation of Chef Bonnie’s cooking style. Today you will find her in a client’s kitchen, joyfully creating delicious entrées and side dishes built with the freshest ingredients and to the client’s exact culinary tastes and dietary needs. Every dish she makes is filled with layers of taste and color that delight every sense. Clients are left smiling, loving every bite, their house filled with delightful culinary smells!
“I am very creative in the kitchen and have a special touch with food. I prepare everything from ethnic dishes—Indian, Thai, Mexican, Italian and so much more—to comfort food. Clients especially like my delicate coconut curry, chicken puttanesca and pork medallions in a delicate tarragon, Dijon, white wine sauce. And I am often told that my homemade chicken noodle and minestrone soups are the best in the world!
“I have a den filled with cookbooks I inherited from my mother-in-law plus a good number I have acquired over the years. When I first started my business, I spent a good amount of time watching the Food Network. I really learned a lot and now jokingly tell clients that I have a master’s in culinary arts from watching Emeril, the Barefoot Contessa, Giada De Laurentiis and Iron Chef America. I frequently do cooking demonstrations for a local gourmet market and love broadening my culinary skills, learning more about the intricacies and history of food and keeping up with culinary trends. The result is I am always trying new recipes, new ingredients and new techniques I always have a stack an inch thick waiting to be tried.
A graduate of the Culinary Business Academy, Chef Bonnie is a member of the Bonita Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Zonta Club of Bonita Springs, a professional women’s service organization. Her business serves the greater Bonita Springs area. Prior to starting her personal chef business, Chef Bonnie was a journalist, worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and served in a volunteer position as coordinator for an interfaith group that lobbied for social justice issues.
